Emma Saunders
Chartered Physiotherapist and MSK, Sport & Women's Health Specialist
Emma Saunders is a dedicated and experienced physiotherapist specialising in sports and pelvic health, currently serving as a First Team Physiotherapist at Arsenal Women’s Football Club. With over a decade of experience in elite sport, Emma has built a strong foundation in injury prevention, rehabilitation, pitch-side trauma management, and women's health, with a particular focus on postpartum return-to-play pathways.

Emma is developing her knowledge in postpartum athlete care at Arsenal Womens Football Club, working in close collaboration with specialist Emma Brockwell to develop and implement tailored pelvic health programs for athletes returning after pregnancy. She plays a central role in assessing pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD), incontinence symptoms, and ensuring that returning athletes meet both physical and psychological benchmarks before resuming full competition. Emma integrates her pelvic health expertise with performance goals to create evidence-based, individualised rehab and reconditioning plans that prioritise long-term health and performance sustainability.

Holding an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of Bath and a BSc (Hons) in Chartered Physiotherapy from the University of Hertfordshire, Emma’s academic foundation supports her clinical expertise. Her training includes advanced qualifications such as ATMIFF Level 5 Trauma Management in Football, acupuncture, and upcoming pelvic health-focused courses like the POPG certification in 2024.

Emma’s work reflects a commitment to holistic, athlete-centred care, bridging the gap between medical rehabilitation and high-performance sport, especially in areas traditionally underserved like postpartum support in elite women’s football.
Her interests are in lower limb musculoskeletal conditions, youth athlete developmental injuries and women health.
